412.0. "European-G.A.A. Club-Official" by KBOMFG::KEYES () Thu Jul 28 1988 08:24

    RE: EUROPEAN G.A.A. CLUB

    Greetings to all Celts!!
This may be of interest to Celts an Mainland Europe.
A fully affiliated G.A.A club has been formed in Munich-"The
Bayern Celts" and we are presently trying to get in touch with
other interested groups throughout Europe. At the moment we have
some matches among ourselves and organise fringe events...left
    to your imagination!!.
The G.A.A. in Dublin have appointed somebody to
overview the project and a meeting will take place in Munich
in OCT. which will be attended by 4 G.A.A. officers from Ireland.
The main point of the meeting will be to organise the G.A.A in
Europe such that it can tie in with the organisation in Ireland.
We are asking for support and ideas. From what I can
make out and correct me if I'm wrong there is no other affiliated
clubs in Europe?.However there MUST be many people out there who
would like to become involved. We are not looking for matches to
be organised immediately (Though we have a small tournament organised
here for late SEPT.) We are more interested in seeing areas of
support and getting clubs off the ground and later on we can arrange
    games etc.
So thats the story folks. We would appreciate and
ideas/comments you may have. If any body wants more info etc I can
forward it.Looking forward to your thoughts,
      Slan,
         Mick

Great news Mick. If you haven't done so, I suggest you send this
note on to Liam Ferrie so that he can distribute it through the
Irish Emmigrant channel. However, because the plant is on annual
vacation he may not be around for a few weeks.

Re .0: You might also contact some people in Paris. I know that
last year, games of Gaelic football were organized between teams
from different Irish pubs in Paris. One of these pubs is Tigh Johnny's
55, Rue Montmartre, 75002 Paris, ph: 42.33.91.33 (France country
code is 33 and Paris area code is 1). This pub is already the seat
of the Gaelic league in Paris, they might be interested in organizing
a local G.A.A. club. Ask for Johnny (the landlord), he'll be able
to tell you if there's a chance.
    			Denis.

    Denis,
Great stuff!!. This is exactly the type of contact points/people
we are looking for at the moment. I'll get in touch with him and
tell them the story. I'll let you know the reply. We also got a
reply (in Munich) from a contat in Luxembourg. They have a group
there interested in forming a club and seemingly have had a consignment
    of hurleys sent over!!.
        keep it up folks!

412.4Holland for McCarthy 1988!!!!ESDC2::GALLAGHERFri Jul 29 1988 11:3816

    Mick, Great idea!!
There is a very active Irish Association here
in Holland based mainly in the West of the country - Amsterdam,
The Hague etc. and they often run Football and Hurling tournaments.
They issue a regular newsletter and have entertained teams from
    London, Brussels etc. on occasion.
There are quite a number of Irish here in the East of the country
    - mainly working in Philips here in Nijmegen and Eindhoven and
I'm sure we could arrange a decent opposition if you wanted a
    game sometime.
If you need some more info or contacts, let me know.

    re 412.4
My previous note should have read "Holland for the Mc Carthy
1998" and not 1988 - we don't want to rush things!!!!!!!!

    Mick,

I have already sent you a mail about the football. I have sent on
some info to be published in the Irish association newsletter.

I am also going to find out if it is possible in the future to have
the use of a ground. I know it won't all happen immediately but
might as well start asking around.

 Mike,
Well we might have a wee bit to say about that! The lads down here
suspect a Galway contigent up there???.The Tipp contingent here
are plotting already!!!!!!!.Sounds like there could be an interesting
    clash in the future.
Anyway could you send us on a contact/address that we can get
in touch with .Ideally we would like to get some of you down for
the OCT. meeting in Munich, if thats feasible. If we can arrange
    things I'll let you know.ok!

    Folks!

Update on situ....we had a meeting with GAA in Dublin. A
competition etc is been planned for Overseas clubs/Areas back
in Ireland in August 1989. Its planned to be a fairly big effort.
They have got teams from USA, Austraila, Britain and are now
looking for European clubs to take part. We in Munich have been
asked to organise a team....and to try and arrange that some
other European clubs be formed etc etc with the intention of
taking part. So anybody interested should let me know.

is? How do I access it? Read it? Listen to it? I have seen it
mentioned in several files but I haven't seen an explanation.
