352.0. "No input, No output" by TALLIS::DARCY (I can't believe its not butter-butter) Mon Mar 28 1988 23:43

    Well lads, here's a good one:

    On Monday nights from 10 to 11 on channel 25 (one of Boston's
    on-air television stations) is the "Jerry Williams Show".
    Jerry Williams is a successful talk show host. His topics are
    usually very current and controversial.

    Well tonight's topic was "The Crisis in Northern Ireland". His
    guests included the Boston Major Flynn's Ireland Advisor Frank
    Costello, the editor of the Irish Echo William O'Donnell (the
    largest Irish newspaper in the US), and a representative from
    the Boston British Consulate.

    Well, for the third straight time, the British Consulate failed
    to send a representative, after agreeing to the talk. They contacted
    the television station minutes before the show.

    Enough said.

352.1A slap in the face to everyone?MCIS2::HARDYWhat, no wiseacre comment?Tue Mar 29 1988 00:1417

    	In re: .0;

    	Did the consulate or Mr. Williams give any reason? Here again,
    the Brits are making themselves look bad; what possible purpose
    does it serve to agree to appear on a show like this, and then not
    show up at the last minute? The only thing I can think of (especially
    after three times!) is that it was deliberately calculated to be
    a direct slap in the face, not only to the Irish and Irish-American
    guests, and Mr. Williams, but also to any of us out here who would
    have liked to listen to a reasonable exchange of views on this
    situation.	It seems that the British, South African, Israeli, and
    American governments all are experts in being their own worst enemies,
    with policies and procedures guaranteed to infuriate the most patient
    of their peoples...(Some of the alternatives in each case would
    be even worse, however...)

352.2How bout Jerry William vs. The Snake !!!STEREO::BURNSThe boys from the County HellTue Mar 29 1988 08:4816

    	No reason was given for the "No-Show" ....

    	I taped the show if anyone wants to see it. (1/2 hour)

    	It was not a "Typical" Jerry Williams Show in that Jerry seemed
    	to agree with most of what was being said. :-)

         Actually, a rather apt absence....the Consulate manages to
    reflect accurately the void of logical, constructive, productive
    input we've all come to anticipate from the U.K. government and
    its' agents. When it come down to any 'form' of confrontation,
    or debate....their "impartial arbiter" pose just DOES NOT WASH!

         I've got ten punt that says the Snake puts paid to Maggie....
    .....any takers?
