340.0. "PATRICK STREET - SEE IT !!!!!" by DPDMAI::OREILLY (Oh Really?.........No, O'Reilly!) Tue Mar 08 1988 10:14

My wife and I attended the Patrick Street concert at the North Texas
Irish Festival on Sunday afternoon. It was FANTASTIC. These guys
are good. So incredibly crisp and sharp.

The crowd was overflowing. Amazingly enough, even though Guinness
and Harp was flowing-only Bud was offered by the stage! So, you
had to part from the music to get the Porter.

I advise you not to miss Patrick Street in Boston!! If I could afford
the airfare and time; I would be there!!

The Wolfhounds had some excitement too. It seems a non-member of
the North Texas Irish Wolfhound Club was there with his Wolfhound.
This Wolfhound is not a pet like most of ours are - it's used as
a working dog on a ranch - it "takes care" of the coyotes! D**n thing
attacked a Wolfhound pup. As you can imagine, it was not a pretty
sight (even though it lasted for 3 seconds). So much for trying to
promote Wolfhounds as the GENTLE GIANTS.

Anyway, ENJOY PATRICK STREET while you can. CANCEL ALL APPOINTMENTS
    if necessary to be there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I'll be there in Spirit.

P.S. I apologize for the previous note...... Moderator- feel free
to delete it entirely. Must have been very bored....

Thank ye, lad. You're a fine person - never mind what they say

340.3Does "they" = Paddy Culbert ??TUNER::BURNS1988 will be a BANNER yearTue Mar 08 1988 17:1015

    	Hup ya Boy'o !!!

Did you know that when Paddy Culbert was in grade school, he
wanted to become an Astronaut ??

His teachers said he was "Taking Up Space" !!! :=)

Have a fine week yourself, I'll be on "holidays" for St. Patricks'
Week, as I recon "The Man" deserves more than just one day in the year.

Forgot to mention that with the many Irish musicians that were at
    the North Texas Irish Festival.....

Patrick Street were the last performers both Saturday and Sunday
    which speaks for their status.....

Wish I was there to see 'em again.....

Subj:	Patrick St. (St. Patrick?)

	Kevin,
good choice. Patrick St. are the best trad/folk group
I have ever heard (ahead of Planxty & The Bothy Band). Look
out for Arty McGlynn's guitar playing as it is something else.
	Enjoy yourself.

		Rgds,
			Maurice.
340.6Pat St. v's Arcady.GAO::JDOOLEYThu Aug 18 1988 12:3425
    RE..0
Just for your information here's the line-up for PATRICK St. :-
Arty McGlynn- guitar(so good it sounds like rhythm and bass
			together!!)
	Jacky Daly- accordian.
	Kevin Burke_ fiddle.
Andy Irvine- mandola(I think?) and vocals
They play Galway at least once a quarter and I've seen them in action
twice.
BTW. at the recent Galway Arts Festival Johnny "Ringo" McDonagh of
DeDannan fame introduced his newly formed band, Arcady.
If you liked Patrick St. you will LOVE Arcady. It features:-
	Johnny "Ringo" McDonagh - bodhrain
Sean keane - mandolin ,guitar vocals.
	Sharon Shannon - accordion.
There are at least two other members in the band.
It also features Frances Black (sister of Mary Black) on vocals.
I think that given a few years to get experience that Sharon wiil be
at least TEN times as good as Jacky Daly!!!!!! She's only about 20 yrs
and sounds like a veteran!!!!
Thats all for now.
		John "Galway bay" Dooley.
