| Leaprechauns hung on to get hung over.
1. There are only the Clarinbridge & Galway Oyster festivals.
2. First Sunday in Sept. will be the all-Ireland hurling final
and Galway folks expect to be very much involved.
3. There are self catering cottages at Kinvara which is only 12-15
minutes from Clarinbridge and 25 minutes from Glaway.
Moran's is even closer..... by boat....if you can hijack one.
Snake will be in Galway, come in and say "hello".....or "what are ya
havin' " :-) :-).

| Oh sage serpent, did you realize, (I'm sure YOU do...I'm sure
that keVin will be fascinated!) that the omnipotent forces of the
Tribes haven't suffered defeat in match play for the better portion
of TWO YEARS! I suspect that there will be no REAL competition until
the beginning of September. All well, the burdens of leadership.

The Shnake is in Dublin today tring to pull a stroke for the Galway
hurling team. I think the idea is to get them a permanent bye into
the All-Ireland Hurling Final each year without any intervening
skirmishes. If successful then steps will be taken to ensure that
they get a permanent walkover on final day.

Thats no problem. Galway will be walked all over on final day.
That is if Snakes tactics work. Of course Mayo should beat them
in Connacht this year

The last time Mayo was in a Hurling Final ......
"Nelson" was still on the Pillar !!!! :-)
It's like the SHnake said at the semi-finals last year...
"You could tell who were the ones from Tipp,
they were the ones staring at the tall buildings". 8=)

| Leaprechauns deplore the miserable munster morons.
Galway has won three all-Ireland titles out of the 100 played.
It does not embellish those from the hurling strongholds to begrudge
the men in maroon their well earned moments of blissfull glory.
I am looking forward to being there on the 1st Sunday in Sept. for
a few more years yet. This is a great team.

| Though I could be accused of a slight bias, I find that I,
from a throughly objective perspective, completely agree with the
sage serpent's insightful assessment. Perhaps, to be fair, it's
only a form of colour-blindness brought on by a seasonal bout of
inadequacy that lends itself so readily to those envious critics
of the emerging dynasty from Galway.
There'll be Maroon and White tied to each pole and hedge on
BOTH sides of the Dublin road this September!

Now Mike, don't get shirty - maroon is not pretty when it runs!
.Galway has won three all-Ireland titles out of 100 played.
Which according to my ready-reckoner is ---WAIT FOR IT---
SIX matches in *100* years.

326.15 | Ah, Moran's...another pint Willie! | DELI::GREENAWAY | | Thu Mar 30 1989 17:06 | 52 |
| Not to be too serious, but getting back to the original subject,
Moran's and the Galway Oyster Festivals. I lived in the thatched
cottage next to Moran's for three years and will tell you what
know.
Clarinbridge is the home of the Galway Oyster Festival. Back in
1984 when Galway City was celebrating its 500 anniversity, the local
councel convinced Clarinbridge to move the festival to Galway Centre
for the anniversity year, with the understanding that it would go
back to Clarinbridge the following year.
There was a lot of arguing over this the following year and from
a combination of Galway council tree hugging greed and Clarinbridge
hold out Publicans, Galway retained the festival and proceeded to
draw big names (Gay Byrne) and big bucks. In 85 Clarinbridge decided
to have a one day Oyster festival of their own. They set up a marquee
next to Paddy Burke's and sold about 400-500 tickets. The price
was 20 pounds and it included free beer all day (12 to 6pm), two
bands, a plate of smoked salmon, a dozen oysters, a salad plate
with poached salmon, a fish/clam chowder and an Irish coffee. Well
worth the ticket price. During the event they also had the selection
of the Oyster Pearl. BTW, the Galway Digital Catering staff catered
the affair with local ingredients. Since the day went so well they
decided to expand the following year. In 87 they extended the the
marquee to hold 700. In 87 the weekend agenda was; Opening ceremonies
at Moran's around 6pm Friday, with music, local dance troops, opening
of the first oyster and the boat landing of last year's Oyster Pearl.
Music and festivities would move into Moran's and spread to other
local puds. Willie Moran (Moran's) and Joe Sherry (Sherry's) ran
it the last few years. Saturday was the parade through Clarenbridge
and the marquee party. That night all local pubs were hopping with
music and crack. Sunday they had a Irish coffee reception at Kilcolgan
Castle court yard, with local music and a fashion show.
I would guess that this year's festival would be the weekend of
Sept 9th. Get your tickets early because there's quite a demand
for them.
The Galway festival is usually 2 weeks after Clarinbridge's.
The whole Quay street area is usually hoppin. The oyster opening
contest is held in Galway.
I alway's liked the Clarenbridge festival better because it's
a local festival that makes the best of what they have. Plus there's
more of a country flavour to it.
As far as accommondations go, Snake's right about Kinvara.
Another great town. About 15 pubs in 500 feet of town.
I'd use the local B&Bs and eat out. It's much cozier and you get
to mix with the locals closely and that's what's all about.
Meeting good people and having a good time.
Gots to run!
Cheers,
Paul
