| Could this be a sinister Tory plot to cast that scaly, though lovable
reptile off the Emerald Isle for good? Is this the end for the 'sacred'
serpent of sagacity? Will the valiant viper vacate the vat,(of Porter,
of course!) and forever be a vagabond in this vale of tears? Alas,
I fear no good can ever come from this conundrum?
Remain riveted to your receivers!

| Leaprechauns survived (one of the quirkes of immortality).
Many people are a bit under the weather here today.
There was a heroic struggle of epicurean proportions fought out
by the fearless cohorts of DEC Galway in the middle of the raging
storm yesterday.
Not one single Public House was blown away in Galway thanks mainly
to the legions of DEC people who braved the enraged elements to
lend their weight to the bar counters. Thus ballasted, the security
of the treasured institutions of state were protected.
Many enduring stalwarts went even beyond the call of normal
duty and selflessly took on ballast themselves to defy the mighty
blast, and ensure that their grandchildren will be able to sit
calmly at the same counter and order 15 pints with the assurance
and aplomb, that their ancestors fought so hard for them to enjoy.
This day will live in the memory of countless myriads of
publicans. Henceforth Feb. 9th will be a facility holiday in
thanksgiving for the deliverance.
There is a fair degree of storm damage. GUsts of 107 mph were recorded.
THe West and Northwest were worst affected. Many trees were brought
down, (luckily there were no leaves on them at this time of year
or many more trees would have fallen). Five people have died which
is more than when Hurricane Debbie hit us in Sept. 1961. THis was
not a hurricane but a very intense anti-cyclonic storm. THe low
registered 944 millibars which is damn low. The storm lasted about
20 hours in all, and luckily the rainfall was low throughout (
inch max.). THere was some damage to the roof in Mervue but its
not serious.
Snake was immune and numb, and is regretting it.......the drink.
