Well boys and girls, Scotland did Ireland a good turn last night
by beating the Bulgarians in Sofia. The Scottish team was undermanned
as far as the quality of their players according to the BBC World
Service and French and Swiss television.
Ireland qualify for the European Championships as the topped this
group. It is rare that the Republic qualify for any competition
of major importance so this is indeed a good day for the Republic
and their English manager Jackie Charlton of yesteryears.
The Bulgarians have not been beaten on home soil for 4 years. A
lot of people might remember the last time the Republic played there
and this gives a indication of why they have not been beaten at
home for 4 years.
El Gringo is happy today ;-)

| 291.1 | Euro soccer on TV? | AQUA::OTOOLE | Fri May 13 1988 12:37 | 11 | |
Anybody know where the European Soccer Championship games might
be seen in the greater Boston area? None of the cable TV
companies (NESN and ESPN) have any plans to screen them.
Maybe some Irish bars will show recordings of Ireland's games
at least. Any leads?
Thanks,
John.

I think the Kinvara pub in Brighton used to show them, you might
give them a call John.

Isn't it amazing how fortunes have changed since the base note was
written! Two years ago we qualified due to someone else's mistakes.
This time we did it all by ourselves!
