274.0. "Americans need advice" by USAT03::MICHAEL (Irish Thorn in Manager's side) Tue Sep 29 1987 11:02

Love to get things started, however alot of the boys over here want
to know the IRISH opinion on American Girls. Now, mind you I did
at first refused to enter this for discussion for there are no
statistics on how many American Girls the Irish Boys have encountered
ah, yet one never knows, and these boys have been through the Irish
political gambit, besides several European notes files have had
some interesting answers... Give these slurryheads a run for there
    money.

My opinion???? One brick short of a load. maybe two. and far too
    many teeth.

I'm one of the American Girls that an Irish boy (?) was (and still
is) attracted to...We met some 15 years ago, and have been happily
married for 13 years. We've lived on both sides of the pond, but
prefer here for work, there for holidays. But I have to say that
my husband is not typically Irish in many of his characteristics,
e.g. he does a fair amount of housekeeping and cooking (more than
half as he's home days and I'm not.) But then again, his parents
weren't very typical either. They both ran a small hotel, but my
mother-in-law was the personality and driving force behind the venture
and when she died, my father-in-law sold the business and moved
    the States with us.

I guess the point is: the reason the Irish/American connection
is so successful in this instance is because it's not based on being
either Irish or American but on my being right for him, and him
    being right for me.

Thanks for your answer, interestingly enough the boys had heard
that the Irish women were the strong ones, the power behind the
family, your mother-in-law is not the exception. I have heard
some American girls say theywould prefer Irish men for they would
be easier to control... wrong again.
These american boys are getting tired of being cut up in small pieces
and fed to wolves by idealistic american girls.

Maybe I could guess where "there" is if I knew where "here" is.
Of course you must realise that your "here" is probably not the
same as my "here" - mine is "Munich, W. Germany".

I'm sorry...I thought the discussion was about American females
and Irish males. I'm now a little confused. Here is the States,
there is Ireland...preferably Schull, Co. Cork where we spent two
glorious, and would you believe it *sunny* weeks last July.
