Can someone list the technical universities of Ireland that offer
advanced degrees in order of their reputation?

    Thanks,
    George

    George,

It depends what exactly you are looking for...

    I know of the following:

NIHE (National Institute of Higher Education). These are the nearest
to a Technical University and I believe they do degree courses.
Digital gets some good people from there. They are located in Dublin
and Limerick. I'm giving a presentation for DECUS at NIHE Dublin
on Thursday so maybe I'll be able to pick up some more details.
Mail me if you have a specific interest/subject in mind.

RTC (Regional Technical Colleges) These do technical courses in
all areas, incl Electronics. There are several scattered around
    the country.

And of course the "standard" universities do technical courses (not
    sure about correspondence).

    In order of reputation???

As distinct from most other countries, the U.K. nad Ireland have
"External examiners" for all degree and higher courses. Their duty
is to ensure a uniform standard of pass and honours qualifications
across the two islands. This works reasonably well. My father is
an academic in Galway and has been an external examiner for, among
many others; Oxford, St. Andrews, Univ of London, Trinity (Dublin),
Royal College of Surgeons (He's medical) and various Middle East
    and African universities.

This means that the standards are relatively uniform compared to
the USA. (i.e. no cases like: M.I.T.= really serious, Florida State
    = Party time).

However, differing sizes and budgets mean different standards of
lab equipment, etc. are available. While I personally went to UCG,
we had the smallest and worst lab facilities. I believe this made
no difference at all to my employment opportunities.

My daughter is interested in studying at Trinity College, Dublin
for a year. Where could I write or telephone to get information
concerning foreign (US) admission/entrance requirements? Any assistance
    would be appreciated.

    Suggest you write to:
    			  Admissions Officer,
    			  Trinity College,
    			  Dublin 2.

Trinity doesn't seem to have the same proportion of foreign students
nowadays as it had in the late 60's/early 70's.
