269.0. "MacBride Principles. Nashua Lecture." by BRAT::DROTTER () Thu Sep 17 1987 14:06
There will be a lecture on The MacBride Principles and the need
for the U.S. to pass this legislation to help stop job descrimination
against the minority in Northern Ireland. The lecture will be given by
Oliver Carney, founder of the Fair Employment Trust (in Belfast)
an organization dedicated to ending employment descrimination. BTW,
this man lost his job in Northern Ireland for having merely given
a lecture in N.Y. on the nature of the MacBride Principles.
It will be held on TUESDAY, Sept 22, 1987 at 7:30pm at the Chandler
Ethnic Centre (which is part of the Nashua Library System) located
at the corner of Kinsley and Main Sts. (opposite Memorial Hospital).
This is a very timely lecture in light of the fact State Rep. Kevin
Mulligan has introduced a bill before the N.H. Legislature to pass the
MacBride Principles. It is imperative that all of us WRITE to our
representatives and urge them to pass this important piece of
legislation. This lecture is a perfect opportunity to learn first-hand
not only what the MacBride Principles will do for our brothers and
sisters in Northern Ireland, but also to learn what these people
face on a day-to-day basis - the denial of basic HUMAN RIGHTS.
