    It's connected with an EEC directive, I believe, but I don't have
    the details. This will of course apply throughout the EEC within
    18 moinths.

| 259.2 | It's called KAN-BAN | YIPPEE::BOYLE |  | Thu Sep 03 1987 03:05 | 5 |
| | According to yesterday's Times (British) it's an ecological move
    aimed at reducing the amount of plastic and aluminium lying around.
    98% of canned beers in Ireland are imported (mainly from U.K.).
    Ireland is the first EEC country to implement this rule, and will
    ban even home-produced canned beer by the end of the year.

| | I can understand why you don't want plastic lying around, but aluminum
    is recycleable.

| | Canned brew tastes "tinny" So enjoy it from the glass bottle or
    keg draft. Besides who wants to litter Ireland with cans or plastic
    bottles?
