217.0. "Meaning of the Irish Tricolour" by FNYFS::AUNGIER (Rene El Gringo) Tue Jun 16 1987 08:05
The Irish Tricolour was adopted as the National Flag of Ireland
after the treaty of 1922. The flag that was used before was a green
one with a Golden harp on it.
The reason for the Green, White and Orange was the the Green represents
the republic of Ireland and the Orange the orangemen in the north
and the White symbolises the joining of the 2 by peace and friendship.
Please correct me if I am wrong but I learned this in the Boy Scouts.
