214.0. "Madra Rua" by TALLIS::DARCY (Killarney, Kilmaley, Kilgarvan, and Gort) Fri Jun 12 1987 16:00
Does anyone know the complete words in Irish to the chorus of the
song the "Little Red Fox". I have a bad recording and all I can
make out is the following:
Madra-in rua - rua - rua - rua - rua ! Little red dog red red...
Madra-in rua, ta an granna. ! Little red dog is horrid
Madra-in rua, ??? ! Little red dog, ???
???, ?? marbe' ! ???, ?? dead
The question marks represent the 3 phrases I'm missing or
can't understand. Anyone ever heard this song?

| I believe it may go like this; I had to heark back to
"Infants" school in Cork for the memory:
An madrin rua in a luighe sa luachair
Agus barr a dha cluas in airde.
The little red fox lying in the rushes
With the tips of his two ears erect.
That's the way I remember it, anyway.
