    Leaprechauns know how to translate it.

    Re .0

    I could translate the anthem for you. However as you probably know
    there is a version in english also. The rub is that the english
    version is NOT a translation of the Irish version, if you get my
    meaning. The version "as gaeilge" is very belligerant.

    Snake says that if you want to hear it, be in Croke Park on the
    first Sunday in September.

     It might be true that somebody in the stadium will be playing the
     song, but there won't be 5 people in the place who'll be able to hear
     it.

196.7The Soldier's SongDUBSWS::D_OSULLIVANWe're not stopping before Park Gate StreetWed May 20 1987 08:0520

We'll sing a song, a soldier's song
With cheering rousing chorus,
As round our blazing fires we throng,
The starry heaven's o'er us;
Impatient for the coming fight,
And as we 'wait the morning's light,
We'll chant a soldier's song.

Soldiers are we, whose lives are pleged to Ireland;
Some have come from a land beyond the wave,
Sworn to be free, no more our ancient sireland
Shall shelter the despot or the slave.
Tonight we man the "bearna baoil"
In Erin's cause, come woe or weal;
'Mid cannons' roar and rifles' peal
We'll chant the soldier's song.

    Soirs, T tu ag labhairt Gaeilg anois, T thas orm.
    D bhidh seans agam, ba mhaith liom Gaeilge a labhairt an t-am go
    lear.

    The soldiers song should never be translated into English, that
    foreign beastly tongue.

    I could translate it if you really want but it would lose a lot
    of its meaning.

		Is an leagan gaelach at ar "Amhrn na bhFiann" a bhfuil
an aistrichn; thainig "The Soldier's Song" i dtosach.

	Nl aon teanga n nisiin ann a bhfuil ina ainmh. Nl an
ainmh n an duine at ag labhairt, b'fhidir, agus bonn a ln Gaeil
ann a bhfuil ina mbeithighe freisin.
