166.1 | English footballers! | EMC2::GOLDING | La vie est dure sans confiture! | Wed Apr 01 1987 05:54 | 6 |
| Just thought I would pose a question related to Liverpool football
team. How many English actually play for them? If you take away
the Celts they would not be left with much. They say they have some
of the best club football in the world and on the basis of that
they expect to compete with the best at international level. Most
of the best players in the 1st division are "foriegners".

| Yes ,Liverpool is full of Scottish,Irish and Welsh, and I would
go to say that we have the best footballers but after Scotland being
beaten 4-1 last night night by Belgium I7d better keep my mouth
shut. Also I was talking about the Scottish supporters being tarred
with the same brush as the English, as it turned out the Belgians
sold 500 tickets to Scots fans.

| Hi,
It is common practice in the United States to consider the entire
island as England. I had dinner with a fellow from Connecticut
last week and he indicated that he was not aware of the insult until
he lived in England for a number of months and traveled to Scotland
and Wales.

| It has been a while since I've seen this notes file. Being called
British is OK with me; however English is not correct. It is a bit
like Mexicans calling all people that are of European origin "Anglo";
not anywhere near accurate.
