    		Castlebar International Four Day Walks
                       Castlebar, Co Mayo
    		Thursday, 25 June - Sunday, 28 June, 1987
                                         
    
    
    The 21st annual Castlebar walks will take place this June. Entrants
    are expected from all over Europe and the U.S.  This is not a
    Race walk but a gentle ramble with a large group of people thru
    the Western Countryside.  
    
    They are not competitive and have no set time for completion.  This
    enable participants to enjoy the scenery and the company of the
    other walkers and to complete the walks without undue exertion.
    
    All walks loop around and begin and end at the Mall (the green)
    in Castlebar.  On each of the four days there is a long walk
    (24-27 miles), a short walk (12-17 miles) a mini-walk (8 miles)
    and a cross-country ramble (18-20 miles).  You can entry for
    one or all days, although to receive a medal you must complete
    the maximum amount of miles for all four days in a category.
    (Actually, I think this year they are giving out medals if
    you finish one day ..in celebration of their 21st year).
    
    Oh yes, food is provided on the walks at various checkpoints and
    accommodations for hotels, B&B can be arranged.  
    
    
    My husband and I will be going on these walks.  My daughter and
    neice participated in the WALKS a few years ago and said it was
    the best experience they had while in Ireland.  Of course, I
    must tell you, my cousin, Andrew Feeney is the Chairperson of the
    Walks.
