re:-1
However, Celtic are still top of the Scottish Premier Division
(the competition that counts). Drew, the alacrity with which you
reported this result would seem to indicate a certain non-Celtic
bias (excuse the pun).
Frank Boyle (Valbonne, France).
P.S. Should we start up a "RANGER" conference to report Rangers
victories? It shouldn't take up much disk space!

| No Frank I'm not anti-Celtic, nor anti _Rangers. Being an East coaster
and from Kirkcaldy, I'm a Raith Rovers supporter, no nasties please,
they are 2nd in the 2nd Division at the moment. I would have preferred
to have seen Dundee Utd or Aberdeen or Hearts in the final. On a
final note it's nice to see Rangers starting to get some returns
on the million or so quid that they've paid out for players.
As an aside, and just to totally confuse our North American readers,
2 interesting items on the Scottish news last night.
The Celtic player ,Mo Johnson, who was sent off in this match will
be disciplined by his club for crossing himself as he left the pitch.
The 2nd item was that a Dundee player was fined for "inciting a
riot" for an incident in a match last season where following an
incident in a match against Rangers, he spat at the crowd, gave
a V sign and then crossed himself, the fine was 1000.
Totally incredible, this sort of thing, especially a it was screened
live on a Sunday afternoon, after all , kids do attempt to emulate
their heroes and both Rangers and Celtic have the biggest following
in Scottish football.
BTW RAITH ROVERS 3 arbroath 0 , now that what I would call alacrity.

| Never met a Raith Rovers supporter before. They seem to be as thin
on the ground as Third Lanark fans.
I think you've probably done enough to confuse our N. American brethren
in the previous response.
Is it true Rangers are going to sign Liam Brady? Didn't think he
was the martyr type.
Frank.

94.4 | Up Celtic! | DUBSWS::D_OSULLIVAN | NOTONATO | Wed Oct 29 1986 12:57 | 11 |
| For non-informed readers, the Rangers football club is a bastion
of anti-Catholic bigotry. Up until recently not one single Catholic
had played for the club. There was some publicity a year or so
back when they employed an Catholic apprentice player. I don't
know if things have improved since. Maybe someone can tell us if
they have been dragged screaming and kicking (and bashing skulls)
into the 20th century?
signed,
A Taigue.

| Sorry to report but not one player of that religious persuasion
has been signed, the closest that they have come is that the new
manager (player/manager), Graeme Souness has a Catholic wife and
has promised that religion will not be a problem in signing a player,
lthough I do believe that Souness is sincere , I suspect that board
level politics might well intervene, I further suspect that if Souness
is presented with this problem he won't be there long.
It should be noted that although Celtic has its origins in Eire,
and flies the Irish flag at Parkhead, they have no problems when
it comes to signing players or managers of any religion.
All a bit sad really.

| Hi,
Back to football, please. Who do you think will be the new
manager for Aberdeen? I cannot remember the current one's name
but he has done a good job and I think will be missed.
p.s.
It is shocking-- shops will be open on Union Street in Aberdeen
on Sundays between now and Christmas. Greed seems to conquer all!

94.8 | Ian Porterfield | EAYV05::SHARP | Drew Sharp - AYR Data Centre,Scotland | Mon Dec 08 1986 03:46 | 8 |
| Old manager was Alex Ferguson, now with Manchester United, new manager
is Ian Porterfield, ex Raith Rover and Sunderland Player. I think
the wind will stiil blow up Union Street ,even on a Sunday, despite
what the church of Scotland will say about it. As for greed, well,
you're talking about "every penny's a prisoner" Aberdonnians.
