I read that DECmigrate (VEST) can work along with MMS in migrating large scale applications. In essence, VEST creates MMS description file which direct MMS to issue VEST commands that translate interdependent images in the correct order. My assumption is I only have the images not the source files, How does MMS come into the picture ? do I need to define anything first with MMS ? Is my following presumed steps of using VEST with MMS correct ? : 1) install MMS and VEST on ALPHA 2) copy VAX images to ALPHA 3) VEST /dependency image.exe (VAX image) ---> image.mms file 4) @VEST_MMS_DRIVER.COM image.mms ---> image_tv.exe (ALPHA image) now where is the driver program VEST_MMS_DRIVER.COM mentioned in the VEST's HELP located ? I need help to understand the proper use of VEST with MMS. sl.

The MMS file created will be specifically for VESTing purposes. > Is my following presumed steps of using VEST with MMS correct ? : > 1) install MMS and VEST on ALPHA > 2) copy VAX images to ALPHA > 3) VEST /dependency image.exe (VAX image) ---> image.mms file > 4) @VEST_MMS_DRIVER.COM image.mms ---> image_tv.exe (ALPHA image) Looks right. > now where is the driver program VEST_MMS_DRIVER.COM mentioned in > the VEST's HELP located ? In addition, when you have questions on things like COBOL, BASIC, MMS and so forth -- try doing a dir/title={COBOL, BASIC, MMS} first before asking. Chances are your question has been asked and answered elsewhere. In addition, there's a whole section in the guide on using VEST with MMS. See section 2.3. There's no subsitute for doing some serious reading. Brian |
