4.34update on latest mx kitTALLIS::GORTONMon Feb 24 1997 15:1330

    An update on the mx kit:

    	sousa.amt.tay1.dec.com (16.119.16.126)

    The prior notes are a bit out of date. The situation is as follows:

    The setld-able kit on the layered products disk is quite old, but
    should be viable. If you run into problems, I recommend picking
    up the following new bits in the ~ftp/pub/outgoing directory on sousa
    (via anonymous ftp):

    -rwxr-xr-x  1 root      1916928 Sep 27 15:28 mx_NIS*
    -rw-rw-r--  1 ftp        876544 Jul 25  1996 libmxr.so.V1_2_4
    -rwxrwxr-x  1 ftp       1204224 Jul 25  1996 mxr.V1_2_4*

    The mx_NIS executable has bug fixes for yp lookup/binding cases
    that the layered products version doesn't catch. Symptomatically,
    this happened with some applications linked under Ultrix V4.4.

    The runtime has a number of changes, including fixes to the getwd()
    user call (the underlying implementation of this changed significantly
    in Ultrix 4.4 which uncovered a bug) as well as corrections for running
    applications on a local Advfs filesystem (NFS mounted stuff works),
    along with some other minor bug fixes.

    	Regards,
    			Rick

4.35Beta testers soughtTALLIS::GORTONMon Feb 24 1997 15:1511

    I'm looking for Beta testers for a new version of 'mx'.
    In order to be able to use the new bits, you would either
    need to have a fast 21164 cpu (ev56 support) or Digital UNIX
    V4.0 or later (OS support for the new instructions).
    Please contact me if you are interested.

    	Regards,
