Hello, a customer of mine has a PC Venturis FX5166s with Win95 preinstalled without the CD. He has the necessity to create a Win95 kit to reinstall the system from scratch but he doesn't find any method to do that. Under C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS he has found all the files .CAB but doesn't have any program like MKMASTER to create a floppy kit. He also doesn't have any SETUP.EXE to start the installation on the PC. Anyone have any idea? Thanks Carlo Luraschi [Posted by WWW Notes gateway]

G'Day, The latest Factory Installed Software (FIS) does not provide the capability of creating the floppy diskettes. The reason for this is that every machine is supplied with the Windows 95 CD-ROM (whether the machine has a CD-ROM drive or not) and Microsoft only allow us to provide either the CD-ROM or the ability to make the floppies but not both. In any case, the best practice for disaster recovery is to properly backup the machine. This will enable you or the customer to reinstall everything in one go without having to reinstall the OS and then each application individually. David. |
