I have received a Powerpoint file that I cannot open. The system that created it is a Intel NT 3.51 SP4 system that is running Office 4.2 which has Powerpoint V40a. I have Intel NT 4.0 SP2 that is running Office 95 which has Powerpoint 7.0. I copied the files to my system and tried double clicking on the file and get the error "Sorry, this type of file cannot be opened by Powerpoint." When I open Powerpoint and do a File|Open I get the same error. When I just select the file from within Powerpoint it is able to do the scan and display the first slide but then when I tell it to go ahead and open it I get the same error. Any ideas?

107.1 | can read and convert on W95 | PTOVAX::PEARLMAN | Tue May 13 1997 16:39 | 8
More on this; I was able to read it on a Windows 95 system. It said that it was from an older version and did I wish it be converted. I said yes and then saved it and took it back to the NT system where I was able to read it successfully. Did I forget to include a converter or is this proper behavior?

There are a whole bunch of optional converters associated with Office 95. Rerun the setup program, use the add/remove option to see what got installed the first time around. Owen. |
