Visio Professional Honored With Industry Awards
Newest Visio Product Combines Sophisticated Diagramming With Automation
Capabilities, VBA to Earn Recognition From Developers, IS Managers
SEATTLE, April 15 -- Visio Corp. (Nasdaq: VSIO) today
announced that its software product for the visualization of information
systems and business processes, Visio(R)Professional 4.5, has been selected by
readers of Visual Basic Programmer's Journal (VBPJ) for a Readers' Choice
award and by PC Magazine for an Editors' Choice award. Since the product's
debut three months ago, Visio Professional has emerged as a favorite tool
among IS professionals who recognize the need to design or document technology
infrastructure, such as networks or databases, or align information systems
with corporate goals. Visio Professional's early implementation of Microsoft
Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) is also proving the product's value to
corporate and third-party developers who want to incorporate a graphics tool
at the center of their custom applications.
"We're delighted that Visio Professional has enjoyed such success in its
first quarter on the market," said Gary Gigot, vice president of worldwide
products at Visio. "Acclaim from industry-leading publications such as Visual
Basic Programmer's Journal and PC Magazine, as well as early adoption at
Fortune 1,000 companies such as Hewlett Packard Co. and Boeing Co., confirm
that Visio Professional has what it takes to become an essential productivity
tool for IS and business process professionals."
VBPJ, an independent magazine dedicated to Visual Basic and Microsoft
Windows programming, recently polled more than 3,000 readers about which
products they would most like to see reviewed in its 1997 Buyer's Guide.
Visio Professional was chosen first out of 200 products in the graphics and
charting software category. Visual Basic Programmer's Journal recognized
Visio Professional as one of the most powerful drawing tools available for
Visual Basic developers. The magazine commended Visio Professional for
offering developers the ability to integrate VBA code directly into the Visio
environment, thus making VBA programming with Visio Professional much faster
than programming with an external product.
Visio Professional received PC Magazine's Editors' Choice award for
diagramming software in March. Hailed for combining Visio products'
traditional ease of use with database and automation functionality to support
diagramming types such as network and software design, Visio Professional won
over a range of competitors including Micrografx FlowCharter 7, SmartDraw
Software's SmartDraw and Patton & Patton's Flowcharting PDQ. Visio
Professional was praised by the magazine for its VBA support and tight
communication capabilities with both external data and major third-party
applications.
