I've to upgrade the Firmware in all the RZ29's in a SW RAID-5 set,
I was going to take this oppertunity to 'swap' some narrow drives
for wide ones. The alternatives I have are
1. Fail a member out and just reconstruct (takes a while to do the
whole array).
2. Unbind the array and BACKUP/PHYSICAL narrow drive(s) to wide
drive(s).
3. Put the 'array' out to tape and recreate with wide drives and
restore from tape
My preference would be 2, will it work?

John,
as long as the old and new drives are absolutely identical in geometry
(check with SHOW DEVICE/FULL tracks, cylinders, total blocks) your
method 2 should work.
Do the swapped disk keep the exact same device names?

Yes I'm just replacing RZ29-VA's with RZ29B-VW's and using the same
device names
