Hi This is regd the external battery for cache in the HSZ controllers : 1. There is a single battery option and dual battery option. Does the dual battery option support dual controllers (one for each controller) or is it a redundant battery configuration ? 2. Is this available for exisiting HSZ40 controllers ? Another query regd SWCC : 1. Does SWCC completely eliminate the need for having a Polycenter COnsole Manager in a HSZ controller configuration , as far as the monitoring of the error/state of various controller componenets (cache, battery etc) and RAID-sets within it are concerned ? This is with reference to a Unix environment. Thanks in advance. Ajit Kale

The dual battery option supports dual-controllers (cache module). They are not redundant batteries for a single controller. These external cache batteries are only available for hsx50 controllers. Ray

The raid array 310 has a single battery, so this is the single battery configuration. As far as the SWCC: The current state of the product does not record information such as soft errors on individual devices. If you are experiencing soft errors on a member of a multidevice storage array, such as a raid set; then SWCC would not log those errors. If a device is put into the failed set, you would only know that the device failed for some reason. You still need something like polycenter console manager connected to the terminal ports of the hsz to get specific information about errors on devices on the hsz.
902.3 | what about DECevent ? | XFMV01::AJITK | Fri Jun 06 1997 09:33 | 8
Thanks for the replies. Ref.2 Would DECevent and SWCC combined, offer the functionality of Polycenter Console Manager in this configuration ? Ajit |
