889.0. "hsz40 configuration questions" by NNTPD::"003/[email protected]" ([email protected]) Wed May 28 1997 03:29

Hi,

I have hsz40 in dual redundant config with hsof ver 2.7. I had used two
target ids (1,2) & used preferred_id (1)on one controller & preferred_id (2)
on other controller. There was a battery failure on one of the controller,
the raid set serviced by this controller started giving ADVFS i/o error &
was not getting mounted. In this situation is it expected that the other
controller which had good battery should take over & start servicing the raid
set which was serviced by the controller which had bad battery, or the other
controller should not takeover raidsets which was serviced by the controller
on which the battery failed ?

Now i have replaced the battery and configured the controller with
nopreferred_id on other controller i.e only one controller will service all
the raidsets & the other controller will be just a hot standby. In this
condition if there is a battery failure on the controller which is servicing
all the raidsets , will the other controller which is hot standby take all
the raidsets & start servicing them without any inturruption ?

Is there any patches available for failed battery which could be even
a false detection, if there are any patches which are they ? & from where
can i procure it, if it is available on the WEB site pl let me know.

Thanks in Advance

battery failures with v2.7z will cause the raid sets to go inoperative,
those raid sets will not fail over. With version hsof v3.x and above
battery failure will cause the hsz to crash, which will then result
in the other controller putting those device on line, as long as the
    surviving controller has good battery.

Suggest you upgrade to v3.1 which is the latest.
