Hi, I need your help for configuring HSZ40 with 100 RZ29 disks. My customer, telecomm company, would like to know how many RZ29 disks can be connected to one SCSI bus on HSZ40 for optimum performance when he uses HSZ-based RAID 0+1 configuration. Following is a brief system configuration. System : AlphaServer 8200 5/440 * 2 (TruCluster) KZPSA-BB * 3 / AlphaServer 8200 StorageWorks 800 * 1 HSZ40-CF * 6 (dual controller) RZ29B-VW * 100 Application : Customer Care & Billing System for Telecom company TP applications for online customer care using Oracle OPS. Batch appliations for billing. I don't have any I/O related data because it is a initial phase of project. So pls gime me a general guideline or recomendation for configuring RAID 0+1 with HSZ40s. We are considering 5 or 6 RZ29 disks to one SCSI bus for performance. Is it reasonable or not? Any help is appreciated. Best Regards, Nam-Jin Cho/Korea Sales

only 42 individual devices can be connected to any hsz, however if you have a dual controller configuration then only 36 devices can be connected to an hsz, also if you have dual power supplies in the storage device shelves then only 36 devices are possible. current configuration maximums hsz has 6 scsi ports - without dual controllers or dual power supplies you can have 7 devices per port 6 * 7 = 42 with dual controller or dual power supplies, then only 6 devices per port 6 * 6 = 36 devices maximum With 100 devices you will need at least 3 hsz controller shelves and 36 device shelves |
