    I have a dual Alphaserver 4100 SCSI cluster running VMS 6.2-1H3 and
    HSOF 2.7-2. The config is pretty simple; 4 shelves with mirrorsets
    and a TZ877 on bus 5 or 6. The curious thing is the tape shows
    up on each system as a different-named device, suggesting there
    are two seperate devices on the cluster.

    We have the system allocation_class's set to "1". Any idea...?

I think one can configure tape devices on multiple host SCSI buses but they are not officially suppoted because of SCSI bus reset problem. Did you set the tape allocation class, TAPE_ALLOCLASS?

I think one can configure tape devices on multiple host SCSI buses but
they are not officially suppoted because of SCSI bus reset problem.
