Is there any way that a controller's configuration can be saved to a disk that is NOT attached to the controller ? My reason for asking this is that one of our customer's, who has a Disaster Recovery contract wants to know if it is possible. For instance a bomb may destroy all of the hardware and getting running again on new hardware would require exactly the same controller configuration. In essence he just wants to avoid typing everything in again, should armageddon strike. [Posted by WWW Notes gateway]

No but he can save a disk in a "safe" place that has the configuration saved on it. He can also write the configuration down and then type it back in. (painful but it works quite well...)

I believe that StorageWorks Command Console will let you do this on the configurations it supports; if it doesn't support your configuration today, it will later this year - the goal is complete coverage. Basically SWCC lets you save the configuration of a controller into a file on the SWCC client (the system that runs the GUI) - which can be in a different building or on a different continent, for that matter - and later load that configuration into any other controller.

build all your configs from command scripts. If you get a little clever you can make them parameter driven, then to re-build on a disaster site, with a new hardware config, simply requires editing a param file and re-building. I can re-build all HSZ and LSM structures for my 28 hsz40's in a couple minutes. |
