1228.0. "HSJ50 documentation needed" by BEET::EAGAN (Among the fashion impaired...) Sun Apr 06 1997 07:56

  I am working a customer configuration pre-sales issue and having problems.

  In referencing "SPD 60.68.01, HSJ50 Family Array Controller Operating
  Software (HSOF), Version 5.1", the section on Software Requirements
  refers the reader to "EK-HSJ50-CG. B01 and current release notes."

  I have looked for the documentation in the following places, per
  notes 6 & 15:

	SSDEVO::DISK$FIB_USER:[HSJ40_DOCUMENTS]
        CXDOCS::PROD$:[PUBLIC.STORAGE_WORKS]
	MAJERE::STORAGEWORKS:

  It does not exist in the SSDEVO directory.
  Node CXDOCS appears to be history.
  Verson A01 does exist on MAJERE, but not B01. It is in .PS format.

  I have pulled MAJERE::STORAGEWORKS:EK-HSJ50-CG-A01.PS and pulled it to my
  system.

  I have installed the most recent PostScript viewer (GhostScript 4.03 with
  GSview 2.1) pulled from the University of Wisconsin's ftp site for WNT.

  However, I am only able to view 6 pages of the HSJ manual before there
  is a... problem. I believe the error is (at least GSview indicates) in the
  way the the .PS file was created from Microsoft Word. The error is:

  "Page ordering is Special. Pages can not be reliably reordered. See help
   'Common Problems.' "

  In refering to that help section, this is the explanation:

	"Your document used the DSC comment %%PageOrder: Special which
	means that pages can not be reliably reordered. This may prevent
	GSview from displaying pages in any order other than the
	original order. If you continue and reorder the pages, PostScript
	errors may occur. The only way to fix this is to regenerate the
	PostScript without special page ordering.

	By default, Windows 95 creates PostScript files which use special page
	ordering. To disable this, open the printer properties then select
	the PostScript tab, then select PostScript Output Format = PostScript
	(optimize for portability - ADSC)."

  So, I need some help.

	1. Is the B01 rev of EK-HSJ50-CG available on the net?

	2. Would it be possible to have these documents generated, or
	    regenereated using the suggestions above, so that they can
	    be read on a Windows platform. This will save paper and allow
	    us (me...) to do this at home, when necessary.

	3. Or, answer the question (which is why I'm wrangling with this
	    mess):     :-)

		What restrictions, if any, are there with using HSJ50s and
	 	OpenVMS/VAX 5.5-2?

1228.1Can't view *or* print it.BEET::EAGANAmong the fashion impaired...Mon Apr 07 1997 08:0712
  The problem of not being able to view/use the .PS in .0 is not limited
  to GSview under a Windows OS.

  I have just fired up the CDA viewer under MOTIF 1.2-4 on my OpenVMS 7.1
  system. I can see 6 pages only.

  Next, I printed the file to an LPS20 (2 sided, double-up). The first
  6 pages looked fine. Then, the job aborted with PostScript errors.

  I can not read this file. I can not print this file. Seems to me I've
  made a pretty good effort. Can someone suggest a next step? Have I
  just pulled a bad copy of it from MAJERE:: ?
1228.2TINCUP::RIDGEI don't know where I'm at, but I'm nearly there!Wed Apr 09 1997 19:538
interesting...
I only show the ek-hsj50-cg manual to be at rev A01..

the hsz50 is at B01..

maybe someone else can verify that...

Hello,

also tried to print this file mentioned in .0 on a Printserver 32 Plus (postscript level 2), but
the print job aborted with '%DCPS-w-invrest, invalidrestore: improper restore .....'
and 'flushing job ....'

Looks like this is a improper Postscript file.
Can this be looked into ??
