| The batteries that failed were marked 6-96 as a date code, but did not
have a "B01" marked on them. Since the "B01" batteries came out in
March of 96, can I assume these batteries are "B01"?

| When the FCO came out last spring the batteries I received were marked
3-96 REV B01. My understanding was that REV B01 batteries started in
March 96 so it looks like the "3" is the month. All of the batteries I
installed(and thats lots of batteries)lately have been either 6-96 or
8-96.
I have never seen any with 22-96....

| It was during February of 1996 that the vendor introduced the changes that produced
rev B01 batteries. Therefore, all current batteries dated 3-96 or later are rev
B01's. Some, but NOT all, of the batteries dated 2-96 are B01's as well.

1142.12 | Battery shelf life...? | ALBANY::HOLCK | | Thu Feb 20 1997 06:51 | 10 |
| The latest update I have on my IPMT is not to install any batteries
that are more than 3 months old-from the date stamp on the top of the
battery. It looks like long shelf life in not a feature with these
batteries. Batteries that are installed which are over 3 months
old have a higher failure rate. An order is placed with our logisitcs
to order enough batteries to update the 28 hsj40's on my site.

1142.14 | IPMT? | ALBANY::HOLCK | | Thu Feb 27 1997 13:28 | 12 |
| An IPMT (CLD) its the process used to escallate an on-going problem to
engineering. Its based in our CHAMP system. The log number for this
case is E32B13140 and can be displayed using CHAMP. This update
to our case from engineering was not(at this time)documented in our
plan. The message came from a conference call a few days earlier.
The bottom line was to replace all batteries with new ones less
than 3 months old...

re: -1
Thanks, Harry. Your note was the first I had heard of this. Because
of your info I ordered a battery replacement kit specifying that it be
less than three months old. Subsequently, I found out that the
batteries in 60+ HSZ's at one of our accounts here in Dallas were
replaced recently with batteries that were more or less straight from
the factory (Date stamped Feb.), and they _all_ worked. The engineer
who did the work told me today there has been no infant mortality so
far. Hopefully, this is the answer we have been waiting 2 years for.

| Engineering did NOT recommend replacing ALL batteries with batteries less than
three months old. What was recommended was that replacement batteries should be
less than three months old.

| You are right, the recommendation was to replace the failing batteries
with batteries less than 3 months old. Because are mission critical
customer(s) have been seeing 2-3 battery failures per week lately, we are
swapping all batteries during scheduled off-peak times rather than
waiting for batteries to show up failed at critical times.
Replacing batteries proactively may not be necassary for less critical
customers...
