66.0. "Saveset-f-memalloc which params?" by ALFSS2::GRINNELL_M () Fri Jan 31 1997 14:38

I have a customer who is using SSMGR V1.3 and VMS 6.2. He is using
    the commands saveset copy/all ta90:*.* tk85:*.*/nolog/full. The
copy proceeds normally then aborts with the saveset-f-memalloc error.
I found the error in the message appendix but it does not specifically
outline what the params for a user account should be if this is what's
causing the problem. The customers user account params are as follows

    wsquota 16384
    wsext 16384
    pgfl 65000
    bytlm 65536
    biolm 150
    astlm 8192
    diolm 4096

When he attempted to read the savesets on the tk85 to see if anything
had been copied he received a parity error. He will use another tape
and retry the operation to eliminate a bad tape possibility.

Do you have any information regarding what params this error is
referring to and are the recommended params for the user account
    performing saveset operations documented?

   Michael,

I was not able to reproduce this problem. In researching the problem,
however, I came across a reference that indicated changing the SYSGEN
paramater, WSMAX to 43000 or greater. Your customer may want to give
   this a try.

Please let us know what happens.

    Terza,

I spoke with the customer. He increased his params to the following
and still recevied the error. However, when he did a vms tape to
tape copy he did not receive the errors:
    wsquo 43000
    wsext 43000
    pgflquot 65000
    bytlm 65536
    diolm 4096
    astlm 8192
    biolm 150
    enqlm 1500
    fillm 500

    sysgen
    ---
    channelcnt 511

I have suggested that he next try to lower the fillm to 128 or raise
the sysgen param channelcnt to 2047 and retry the operation. I have
also sent him a command file that monitors the processes quotas to
see if this sheds any light on the problem. Any other suggestestions
    would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Michael..

After lowering the value of fillm, the saveset copy operation worked.

66.5What Impact Does FILLM Have On SSMGR?CSC32::B_KNIGHTENTue May 27 1997 14:1311

I had a customer who said his Saveset Copy was going
extremely slow. However, upon decreasing FILLM to 128,
it increased the speed of the copy operation.

Since SSMGR is only opening 1 output file (saveset file),
why would it care what FILLM is set to?

    Your response is appreciated.
