292.0. "predictive system health check " by XFMV01::AJITK () Fri May 02 1997 23:23

Hi

A customer is inquiring about a system health check monitor
software which can predict possible failure of a system
component such as CPU, Memory module, controller, disk.
The OS is Digital Unix.

Does DECevent offer such features ?

Anway, where can I find a document on the functionality
offered by DECevent on Digital Unix ?

Thanks in advance.

I went thru the DECevent documents located at pinkft.

I could not find a consolidated list of system components
    which are supported by DECevent.

Is there a document which lists this ?.

Is there an SPD like document somewhere on DECevent ?

    Thanks in advance.

	Ajit,

You did not look very hard. Appendix B of the analysis manual listes the
devices covered by analysis. Appendix A indicates the device covered by Bit to
Text.

While not part of DECevent there are two Digital products that may help the
customer. They are primarily software checks however.

Edex can found at http://pinkft.cxo.dec.com/edex - for UNIX only.

System HealthCheck is commercially available but I don't remember what it
supports. Check it out at http://smsat-www.ilo.dec.com/.

re :.4

I would suggest that you use sys_check for what is described in .4
