288.1 | Where can customers pick up DECevent? | KERNEL::LOANE | Comfortably numb!! | Mon Apr 21 1997 05:05 | 6 |
| We want to blitz our customers with details of where to get
DECevent (and the fact that new product support in UERF and ERF is
limited) etc, but some of them will be Internet-challenged!! Does
anyone have details of the CD's on which DECevent was distrubuted
and what versions of O'VMS & D'Unix distribution media they came
with??

288.2 | sort of | DSNENG::KOLBE | Wicked Wench of the Web | Mon Apr 21 1997 11:48 | 10 |
| DECevent V2.3 should be on the OpenVMS V7.1 associated products CD. It is also
FIS'd on the V7.1 alpha systems. I think UNIX V4.0b has DECevent V2.3 also.
V2.3 is also on the Turbo Laser 4 gig memory update CD (both OS).
The next version of UNIX (now called PT-min) will have DECevent V2.4 as will
the next version of OpenVMS (raven). Unless V2.5 comes out before either of
those ship.
We are also working on a CD for the WOW program but that is a couple months
away. liesl

288.3 | A cd with tools on it? what tools? | BACHUS::PIRLET | | Wed Apr 23 1997 03:01 | 22 |

Would you mind to extend a little bit about the previous sentence?
I would like to see on this cd ALL the tools that may be used on a
customer machine, not only DECevent. DSNlink is the first I really NEED
on top of DECevent, but others are usefull too.
Will we get DSNlink and DECevent and Edex and DIA (you know, all those
products advertised on the web under electronic services at
www.service.digital.com)? What about Canasta, and MPH and ... ?
Will we get a UNIQUE cd with all operating software: VAX-VMS,
ALPHA-VMS, UNIX and ALPHA-WNT (Edex does run also on ultrix and non-DEC
O.S. but could be accessed from unix I hope...)?
Thanks to take care.

288.4 | Kits are protected on PNKLGS and FMCSSE | ATZIS1::SCHIESSER | | Wed Apr 23 1997 07:02 | 11 |
| Today, I tried to copy over the latest DECEVENT-kits for VAX and Alpha
from the good old nodes PNKLGS and FMCSSE.
In both locations, the new DECEVENT-Kits V024 are present but they are
well protected.
Is there any reason for protecting them?

Hannes,
I have changed the protection on the files on fmcsse and pnklgs. Hopefully
this will not happen again.

288.6 | DECevent V2.4 is now on TIMA also | DSNENG::KOLBE | Wicked Wench of the Web | Wed Apr 23 1997 12:35 | 15 |
| The proposed contents of the Service tools CD are:
DECevent for OpenVMS,UNIX,NT
Edex for UNIX (Digital only)
UniCensus for UNIX
AutoCLUE for OpenVMS and UNIX
DSNlink for OpenVMS,UNIX and maybe NT
This will be in iso9000 format with the
Rockridge (?) extentions to be mountable
on all systems. Only the UNIX will be installable
from the CD. The others will have to be copied to
the system they will be used on.
This CD will be part of the WOW program. liesl

288.7 | beautifull, ...may I ask more?... | BACHUS::PIRLET | | Thu Apr 24 1997 03:25 | 18 |

Well, this sound REALLY NICE, but PLEASE include at least a readme.txt
file to explain the contents of the cd, or even better a command
procedure to execute the files.
Just for fun, I have seen a cd with only decevent v2.3 and KNL files
for both UNIX and VMS. There was nothing on this cd but a few files
named DIA_VMSALPHA_023.A_DCX_ALPHAEXE (or similar) in the vms
directory. It took me a couple of hours to finally discover that those
files are OVMS ALPHA executable (ana/image). It took me another 30
minutes to run those files with the correct syntax...A readme would
have saved me a lot of time...a command procedure that asked for the
final destination would have been even nicer...
Again thanks for the good job.

288.8 | how did you get that? | DSNENG::KOLBE | Wicked Wench of the Web | Fri Apr 25 1997 12:54 | 6 |
| Louis, the only cd I know of that fits that description is the one we made fvor the
Turbolaser 4 gig memory. There were complete directions in hardcopy that were supposed
to be with the CD. In fact, the cd was only supposed to be shipped WITH the turbolaser
for the early 4 gig customers. I wonder how you got one and why the hardcopy wasn't
with it. It also contained UNIX fiels and VMS patches that were required for the 4 gig
analysis. liesl

288.9 | I had the cd with the turbolaser, read about the docs | BACHUS::PIRLET | | Mon Apr 28 1997 08:25 | 21 |
| Hello Liesl
What you say is beautifull to point out another missconception of the
field work...Yes I did receive the cd with a 8400 turbolaser. Yes this
machine was brand new and had some problems. ( Machine was hanging
intermittently due to an empty XMI backplane -this will be populated
with the hardware from vax7000 that will go away- but that is an
another story...)
In fact the hardware manual that sould have been associated with the cd
was allready somewhere ( but where ?), in the customer documentation.
(read: is is in the desk of the customer, or at the home of the operator,
or maybe even in an engineer car, who knows?)
If only a small doc, just enough to get going, was written on the cd.
That would solve so MANY "problems". I really would like the doc
stappled (ho, you can't stapple books to cdrom, can you ? :-) )
Thanks to take care...

re - 288.3
MPH can be found on Digital UNIX V3.2 onwards in the area
/usr/field/mph along with a user guide in text and postscript format.
