This past weekend I left my PC doing backup while I went out for the morning. All went OK and when I came home, I shutdown my PC and then went out again. I was talking to my folks in FLA monday night and they told me that they called me a few times and my computer answered. I've gone into setup to check and can't find an ANSWER/NOANSWER box. How can I disable this ? (It's a hayes-compatible generic modem) I'll check my modem-specific manual but I thought it would be WINDOWS95 selectable. Any ideas ?

W95 does not leave the modem ready to answer unless something is running that wants it to answer. For example, if you have Microsoft Fax installed, then the modem will be set up to answer whenever Exchange is running. There is a check box in the Exchange Fax profile to prevent this. If you have Plus! installed, I think there is some sort of provision for W95 to act as a server which might also enable the modem. I've never done this, so I don't know. The trick is, I believe, it is not a generic modem setting but rather a specific application setting. You might find more people with experience in this in the Window95 conference. Burns | |||||

Maybe the default powerup settings need to be changed. ATZS0=0 ATW0 Owen. |
