The year 2000 project for OSF is ongoing now. I don't
think they are supposed to be done until April. When
they have the patches for OSF done, I or someone will be
backporting them to MLS+ V4.0A for sure and probably 3.1A
(although the latter depends on whether Dover is going to
pay to extend support to V3.1A -- normally V3.1A would
retire 6 months after V4.0A comes out, and the customer is
expected to upgrade, but I think Dover wants to extend
the life of V3.1A just as TRW did for V2.0A)
The year 2000 project for ULTRIX is being bid by an
outside contractor. I don't know what the state of it
is at the moment; the last I checked in on it, they were
reviewing the quote.
The year 2000 project for ULTRIX will only include the
date fix (which is already available for OSF) and any
any bare minimum kernel and library fixes. It won't include
working with 3rd parties to deal with every single layered
product proble that might arise. TRW was the last customer
I spoke to about this. They were thinking of changing the date
to Dec 31, 1999 11:59 PM to see what would happen to their layered
products on ULTRIX V2.0A. I haven't spoken to them to see what
ensued, if they ever got around to doing it.
I'm not planning on working on this until the ULTRIX fixes come out;
then I'll for sure be backporting what they have. How much more
we do (testing layered products, whatever), is yet TBD.
P.S. re: "callback" error fixes -- I'm still working on it.
I have some more things to rebuild and retest, including an
automatic patch installer (it's such a huge job, it has to
be automated). It'll take at least another day or so, but
I'm ignoring everything else until it's done...

Jr says he got a message from layers deep in dec that the ultrix mls
boxes are not going to be supporting the year 2000. He says he will
forward the message to me tonight from home. So the customer plan's
on replacing all ultrix mls boxes with alpha's.

Well, I certainly wouldn't want to stop them from doing that!
FYI, see the discussion at note 760.4 in smurf::ultrix_mls_plus
There was a retirement announcement for ULTRIX, but there is
still, as far as I know, an ULTRIX Year 2000 project on-going.
It just is not as extensive as the DU project. Only the
basic broken things will be fixed (e.g., date and library stuff).
I'll reconfirm that there is indeed still an ULTRIX 2000 project,
but not today or rather not until I've gotten that callback
"patch" done.
