831.0. "How to get larger type face in emacs window?" by NETCAD::MORRISON (Bob M. LKG2-A/R5 226-7570) Tue Mar 18 1997 15:55
I am using emacs on an Alphastation 500 running Digital Unix and Motif.
Off-hand I don't know what version of any of these. I am using a VRC17-JA
monitor.
The problem is, when the emacs window opens, the typeface is too small
and I can't read it. So I would like to get a larger typeface, which probably
means a larger window too. Our system manager successfully used the Motif
setup routines to get a larger type face on the main DECterm windows, but
this seems to have no effect on the emacs window.
Someone said I should look for the emacs init file, which might have a
parameter for this. Does anyone know what the name of this file is or what
directory it would be in?

| The GNU Emacs that I use brings up a menu of fonts when I use
"ctrl-MouseButton3". It also reads resources of the form
emacs.font: whatever
from the ~/.Xresources file.

| The command-line switch -font or -fn set to, for example,
"-*-terminal-*-*-normal-*-*-140-*-*-c-*-iso8859-1" should also do it if
you don't want it in your .Xresources.

| re .1 ... Oops, my GNU Emacs was picking up its resources from
the RESOURCE_MANAGER property of the root window as set up by
the xrdb program. It was not picking up emacs.font from the
~/.Xresources file.
