A coworker has encountered a problem that I can't figure out, and none of the other people he as asked can. He is using Ultrix. Something has been set on the system and/or process such that certain (all?) commands are case-insensitive. This is causing trouble, and he wants to restore case sensitivity. Is there a setting that causes a session to be case-insensitive? The most I have been able to find out in my research is that there is a setting called "ignorecase" that does this. I have no idea what context this keyword is used in, or what the opposite keyword is. Please copy me on your reply.

stty [-]iuclc [disables]enables input upper->lower-case conversion. Don't know if that's the one you're looking for. Whatever's doing it must be in the default .login or .profile, though. -Tom

Something at the back of my memory says if you log in in upper case it assumes you have an uppercase only keyboard and ignores all casing from there on in.... Unfortunately it's at the very back of my memory and I can't quite remember how you resolve it, however i think there might have been a stars article on it too. Jo

Actually, I think the tty driver maps all uppercase characters to lower case unless they're escaped. And the tty driver does the mapping the other way as well. It would map a B to \B. None of Digital UNIX V3.2C, ULTRIX V4.3, V4.4 or V4.5 appear to still offer the feature, though it could an option in gettytab. |
