Hi, This is Leo from Digital Brazil. My customer has MLS+ v4.0 running on his AlphaServer platform and he needs to use a lot of Layered Products on top of MLS+. We need to know the updated support product list on top of MLS+. In fact, we should know if the following products are already running on top of MLS+ : 1) Polycenter Console Manager 2) Polycenter WatchDog 3) Polycenter Manager Netview 4) Polycenter Compliance Security 5) Polycenter Intrusion Detector 6) Polycenter PathDoctor 7) Polycenter Performance Advisor/Advisor Collector 8) Polycenter Capacity Planner 9) Polycenter Advanced File System Utilities 10) Logical Storage Manager 11) Trucluster Available Server 12) Trucluster Production Server 13) Full Sail (The customer would like to know if this product has been really retired) Thanks in advance. Best regards, Digital Technical Support Brazil

495.1 | we need justification to put someone on it | SMURF::BAT | Segui la tua beatitudine | Tue Apr 29 1997 13:49 | 36 |
Hi Leo, I realize that you cannot check all of these products out, because you may not have a "feel" for which products rely on data structures or files that have been modified and therefore will also have to be modified to run as a layered product; or if it is just a matter of granting the correct privilege to the product (in other words, the program does a setuid(0) or similar operation, and there is no need to modify the program to just get it to run). But we have no available resources either. In some cases, with some products, we have *some* information, but you have a long list. Can you put together a sales program justification, or an ECP for this project? In that way we might be able to get someone assigned to test these layered products to determine whether they will or will not run. If you want help doing a justification or description of the statement of work, can you please send mail to [email protected] (Phil Becker)? Also, it would help if you could prioritize the list. And, if you could give some reason why the customer wants that particular product (other than the obvious: "they want backup") it may tell us how much we have to qualify it. For example, it's my (possibly weak) understanding that the "Compliance Security" product is not really necessary on an MLS+ system, since most of its features are built-in functions of MLS+. Thanks, Barbara

Here comes my favorite subject :-) 1) Polycenter Console Manager 2) Polycenter WatchDog These two have gone to CA. Jim ZEKE::burton is a good place to start. The consol manager has only recently been ported to UNIX V4 and the watchdog isn't there yet. 3) Polycenter Manager Netview pass 4) Polycenter Compliance Security 5) Polycenter Intrusion Detector These two are currently looking for a buyer and are NOT avaiuilable for UNIX V4 6) Polycenter PathDoctor went to CA - not clear if there wwill be a V4 version 7) Polycenter Performance Advisor/Advisor Collector Went to CA I believe a V4 version has just been released 8) Polycenter Capacity Planner Still a DEC product 9) Polycenter Advanced File System Utilities 10) Logical Storage Manager MLS+ *could no these 11) Trucluster Available Server 12) Trucluster Production Server Some work was done to port ASE 1.2 to MLS+ V3.1a - so I guess it could be done again for ASE quite simply. (but it cost the DOVER project qiuite a few $$ :-) The MC stuff for the Procuction Server will add a whole lot of work. 13) Full Sail (The customer would like to know if this product has been really retired) I thingk this has been replaced with the Performance Manager. This is available on UNIX V4. As always, none of the layered products consider it finantially worthwhile adding support for MLS+ (*I have the ECPs to prove it*) Jc (Excuse masses of typos - I'm on a really slow dial-up today)
