471.0. ""Can not create temporary node ; Can't set terminal secureity level"" by SMURF::BAT (Segui la tua beatitudine) Fri Apr 04 1997 17:19
Chris Wolf (415) 506-2529 called with a problem. Users trying to
rlogin or telnet into the system would get rejected with the following
messages:
"Can not create temporary node"
"Can't set terminal security level"
I found the messages in sec_login.c -- evidently there was a -t file
created (by who knows? did the system crash in the middle of a
create_file_securely?) in /dev/ for the "next" pseudo-tty that login
was trying to allocate to a new user. By moving them back to the file
they should be or removing them and re-mknoding the pseudo-tty, Chris
was able to get people to login again.
It would be nice if the system did some integrity checking for -t files
and notifying the user on reboot instead of just setting the attributes
and letting people hang in the wind. Or it might be nice if the system
would bullet-proof create_file_securely better. It would be even
better if the system didn't crash :-)
