468.1 | did you try it? if it works, it works :-) | SMURF::BAT | Segui la tua beatitudine | Tue Apr 01 1997 13:48 | 11 |
| I just looked at the DIGITAL UNIX V3.2B SPD, and it has TKZ09 but not
TLZ09. The first DIGITAL UNIX to have TLZ09 listed is V3.2C. It's my
understanding Unix product management try to back-update hardware
support on older version SPDs, but I could be wrong.
I do not know enough about the tape drives to know what the differences
are. If it will run on DIGITAL UNIX V3.2B, it should run on V3.1A
MLS+. I'll check with Lee when he gets in tomorrow.
Is there a reason why the customer cannot upgrade to MLS+ V4.0A?
Ooops, I take that back, I assume it must be SPS.

My understanding is that the tlz09 is a drop-in replacement for
the tlz07. I haven't actully tried it yet, but I have a couple
that we can try if this is important.

468.4 | way down | SMURF::BAT | Segui la tua beatitudine | Mon Jun 02 1997 16:54 | 33 |
| Well my guess is that V3.2B does not have the cam_data.c updates it
needs. You might be able to field upgrade them (just as you would
customize for a non-DEC device), I don't know. This will take some
time to figure out; I'm not sure what the position on this is --
do you want to add support for TLZ09 to MLS+ V3.1A? If yes, then
it's probably ECP time, or else this goes to the bottom of the queue...

Note 7831.1 Is TLZ09 really working on DUnix? 1 of 4
NETRIX::"[email protected]" "denm" 16 lines 13-NOV-1996 07:27
-< Check for firmware rev. 0167 (minimum) >-
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Does # "scu show edt bus 0 target 4 full" amongst other show the following:
Product Identification: TLZ09 (C)DEC
Firmware Revision Level: 0167
firmware upgrade tape partnr. QZ-00LAC-UP (see stkhlm::magtape 3469.1)
If the firmware is not updated to 0167, you will see the problems you have.
Firmware update tape needs only to be inserted, then it upgrades itself.
(Bus termination could also be an issue.)

468.5 | is it hardware? (I love to say that as a SW person) | SMURF::BAT | Segui la tua beatitudine | Tue Jun 03 1997 19:56 | 6 |
| I was wrong. Lee just put a TLZ09 on a FlamingO (DEC 3000-500) and it
worked just fine (i.e., no CAM errors) -- successfully tar'd and
dump/restore'd.
Zo -- he thinks you maybe have a hardware problem. Or -- what model
Alpha are you using?
