| CORRECTION:
If you run V3.1A with the Firmware from the CDROM Rev greater than 3.4
you will get a core dump when you try and change a user's password.
If you run V4.0 with the Firmware from the CDROM Rev less than 3.5
you will get an error when you try and RIS.
(Neither of these are MLS+ problems ... base OSF).

It's in the install guide
for V4.0 (base OSF as well as OSF MLS+)
you need the Alpha Systems Firmware Update V3.5 cdrom
AG-PTMWS-BE March 1996 Disc 1 of 1 -- or later.
for V3.1A you need the old CDROM Firmware Update V3.4
that shipped with the kit.

Be forewarned that Rev. 36 requires the latest and
greatest firmware (CD Version 3.7) due to the merge
with pta.
Go to :
http://www.zk3.dec.com/uhs/firmware/v3_7_fw_cd.html
and click on your hardware platform
to get the command needed to update your firmware
if necessary.

I had forgotten that the firmware from the previous release
appears on the next release of the CDROM. Therefore, the
firmware for MLS+ V3.1a can be found on the 3.5 release of
the firmware CDROM.
Something to keep in mind for anyone needing firmware for
MLS+ 3.1a as I no longer have any V3.4 CDROMs and the firmware
is not online at any locations that I know of.
This still does not solve JR's problem, but is just somewhat
useful information.
