Chinese Music Concert

Place: Paine Hall at Harvard University
Tickets: $10 for adult, $8 for student
On Saturday, March 29th, 1997, The Chinese Music Ensemble of
Greater Boston Chinese Cultural Association will present a
Chinese music concert in Paine Hall at Harvard University.
This concert is part of the Overseas Chinese Music Festival and
is Co-sponsored by the Choral Society of Greater Boston Chinese
Cultural Association and the Harvard R.O.C. student Club.
The ensemble rehearses every week under the conducting of composer
Ya-Ming Hsu. Besides Chinese music ensemble pieces, this concert
will feature renowned Pipa (Chinese lute) soloist Wu Man,
Erhu (Chinese fiddle) soloist Zhi-Min Zhao and GuQin,Zheng
(Chinese zither) soloist Shin-Yi Yang. Recently, the ensemble has
been joined by several new members.
Chien Lui from Harvard University, Shu-Hui Chen from the music
school of Boston University and Tai-Chun Pan have arranged several
pieces for the ensemble to perform. The concert will feature several
special Chinese musical instruments: i.e., ShoNa, GuanZi, Xun, and
BaWu traditionally played by minority people in southwestern China.
This event promises to be an opportunity not only to enjoy Chinese
music but also to learn more about traditional Chinese musical
instruments.
