L'Arlesienne (the Girl from Arles) was originally scored for a 25 piece
theatre band and finally orchestrated, suite #1 by Bizet and suite #2
(after Bizet's death) by his friend Ernest Guiraud. Bizet's musical
parents encouraged his interest in music and removed other distractions
by hiding books from him !

An excellent recording of L'Arlesienne and both Carmen Suites by the
Slovak Philharmonic, Anthony Bramall conducting is on NAXOS 8.550061.
Bramall was 30 years old when he made this recording.
