124.0. "The Baltimore "Riot"" by TOPDOC::AHERN (Dennis the Menace) Tue Apr 19 1994 13:53
On this day, in 1861, fell the first casualties from hostile fire in
the American Civil War as the 6th Massachusetts Volunteer Militia
forced its way through Baltimore to defend the Capitol after the fall
of Fort Sumter.
One of the lead companies was the Davis Guards from Acton, named after
Isaac Davis, Captain of the Acton Minutemen, who was the first to fall
at the North Bridge in Concord on this same date in 1775.
