I was wondering if anyone had any information on the units that served in the Civil War from Vermont? Any info such as regiment numbers etc. would be useful. My great grandfather served in such a unit and I thought that this would be a good place to start my research.

They could have his pension file as well as service record. That would tell you what company and regiment he was in, plus a great deal more. | |||||

If you don't know which regiment he was in, you could try writing to the Adjutant General for the State of Vermont (Montpelier address, I presume ?). Send him your great grandfather's full name and if known, the town or city he lived in. you should get a letter back telling you what regiment and company he served in, dates he served, etc. Good luck and keep us posted!
