90.0. "Civil War Photos" by BSS::HOLLAND (Galvanized Yankee) Thu Feb 18 1993 10:08

These message came across the ROOTS-L listserver from the Internet,
thought that this topic might be of interest to the readers of this
conference. The ROOTS-L listserver is a notes conference of sort that
uses email as it's transport medium, it's primarily concerned with
genealogy. For those interested in genealogy consult the genealogy
    conference at NOBOZO::GENEALOGY.

    Regards

I just saw this in one of my county genealogical society newsletters:

"If you are seeking a photo of a Civil War soldier or soldiers, contact the
U.S. Army Military History Institute, Carlisle Barracks, PA 17013. Their
staff will check their card files for names and/or regiments and send copies
(limit 10 per patron) of what they have, along with copy costs. They are
also seeking to obtain photos of any and all Civil War soldiers. If you
have a photo of a Civil War soldier and will loan it to the Department of
the Army for copying, they will send you a complimentary copy (8 x 10) of
each. Contact: Michael J. Winey, Curator, U.S. Army Military History
Institute, Carlisle Barracks, PA 17013."

Saw the message from Don Wiggins on the Carlisle Barracks. The phone
number to the photo archives there is (717)245-3434. They're very
helpful. Unfortunately, they did not have anything on my gggrandfather's
regiment from Wisc., but they said they did have a lot of Penn. and Mass.
photos. They also said not to quit trying if they can't help you on
the first call. People are donating photos, so they told me to give
them a call again next year to see if they've gotten anything.

So, give them a call.... and please, if you have any Civil War photos,
please consider donating them. It might help many others find their
ancestors.
