Hi there,
Well, it sounds like great fun. I really wish I good be there but
Holland is just so far away from it.
As new member of the 36th Alabama, Sumter County Warriors, I will visit
the US for the first time in my live during next August. With my friend
(thanks to this here notes), the Alabama Slammer, I will participate
in an reenactment in Mass. from 14 till 16 August. Everybody who wants
to join and cross irons with an Dutch Rebel is free to come. More info
later a hope.
During the visit I'll go and see "the holy land" of Gettysburg. I hope
you all have a great time there during July and get the States ready
for a Dutch invasion.
No, serious, I'm already nervous for my first real Civil War battle
and hope to read in the Civil War News how ya'll did it over there.
I'll read this note with much interest and hope to learn from it.
Greetings Pvt. Fifis
36th Alabama Infantry
"Sumter County Warriors"
The Netherlands.

89.2 | Info on "hotline" unclear | XCUSME::MACINTYRE | | Mon May 10 1993 15:56 | 28 |
| I called the two numbers in the basee note and one something about the
spectator phone line struck me as odd.
The recording said that there would be two reenactments (the
reenacter's phone recording said there would be three?). Anyway the
voice said that the site for the day's events was located 4 miles south
of Gettysburg. No once did they mention the National Battlefield. Am
I to infer that the reenactments *will* be held at the battlefield but
the encampments will be elsewhere, perhaps on private property?
Also, since the Park is a public place I don't see how anyone could
charge for attending. Maybe the reenactments at the national
battlefield will be open to the public on a first-come, first-served
basis and the $5 tickets refer to the private encampments.
Does anybody have infor that can clear up some of my questions? I
haven't made any plans yet, but I would consider jumping in the car and
heading down to see this event. I visited Gettysburg a couple of years
ago so I know the battlefield is immediately next to the town and not 4
miles away.
Marv
P.S.
The recording mentioned that the site was the location of the filiming
of the the "1992 T.V. movie "The Killer Angels". Did that movie hit
the airwaves yet?

No sign of it yet. Supposedly, filming has completed and the title
will be "Gettysburg" instead. Better name recognition for the
general viewing public. Also heard that it was to be a theater
release and not a made for TV vehicle. Martin Sheen will be
playing Lee instead of Duvall. Too bad, Duvall would have been
perfect!

Thought it was supposed to be on TNT rember reading someting in TV
guide about it awhile ago. I think it is scheduled to be played
on TV during the same time that the battle took place. Of course if
its going to be in the Theaters that could change everything...
Looking forward to seeing this none the less the book was great!

89.5 | 130th update. | STUDIO::REILLEY | SPF: Slobbering Pennsy Freak | Mon Jun 14 1993 10:02 | 43 |

My sincere apologies for not being able to follow up on any of this
until now. :-(
Ok, initially there were two groups trying to organize a 130th battle
reenactment. After a round of discussions, etc., one of the groups
bowed out so there would only be one event.
This remaining event will be held on the site where they filmed
the movie Killer Angels last summer. It is southwest of Gettysburg,
somewhere out the Pumping Station Road out past the Eisenhower farm.
( I didn't do Killer Angels so I'm not positive exactly where the site
is located). The latest info I have is that there will be 3 battle
reenactment SCENES done over a 2 day period: Saturday, July 3rd will
be the first day's action on McPherson's Ridge, and Sickle's advance
in the Wheatfield. And the finale will be Pickett's Charge on
Sunday, July 4th. All 3 battle reenactments will be done at the
reenactment site southwest of town.
(You can NOT do a "battle" reenactment on the original battlefield
with all those monuments in the middle of everything..... Nor will
the National Park Service allow rifles or edged weapons on NPS
property. Special permission was required in order to film a segment
of Pickett's Charge on the original battlefield for Killer Angels).
Killer Angels was produced by Ted Turner's TNT cable company. It may
be renamed to simply 'Gettysburg' for showing on television. No
specific dates have been announced but it is tentatively scheduled
to be broadcast some time in September, with the possibility of it
being shown in limited movie theaters in selected ( 10 ??) cities
across the U.S.
I just got an update flyer from my regiment which lists several
'hotline' phone numbers. I will post them tonight or tomorrow
morning for you.
I apologize again for not keeping up with the notesfile but I have
been swamped with work & personal events & I just did not have the
time to follow up here. If at any time you have any specific questions
please send me e-mail!

re: last,
To clarify about Killer Angels, when I said it would be
"broadcast some time in September..." I meant it will be shown
on the TNT cable television network.
The limited theater showing, if it is arranged, would be
in addition to the cable station broadcast.

Is there anyone kind enough willing to enter a trip report or even a
second-hand offering?
Thanks,
