70.0. "NO GREATER GLORY - PC simulation by SSI" by SMAUG::RBURR () Tue May 05 1992 12:26
Has anyone tried the computer simulation of the late unpleasantness called
NO GREATER GLORY by SSI? This a PC game that allows you to play the role of
Lincoln or Davis in making strategic decisions to control the war, with the
computer playing the opposing side. Areas in which you need to make decisions
include cabinet and diplomatic appointments, tax level and bond rates,
policy on slavery and foreign intervention, mobilization levels, strategic
troop movements, and assign of commanders and campaign plans. While doing this
you need to balance party support (radicals vs moderates), regional loyalties,
commanders prestige ratings, and troop quality, as well as figuring out how to
achieve a military victory. So far the game has given a quite plausible feel.
I'm now trying the Confederate side after finally achieving a decisive Union
victory at the end of 1863 in my 5th or 6th try. Each side has significantly
different problems and allows many possible approached to be utilized.
