56.0. "GAR help needed" by DECLNE::WATKINS (Elvis is living in Peoria) Thu Dec 12 1991 17:27
I could use a little help from you folks who save (collect) old timey
things.
I'm researching a 1891-1893 court case my G-G Uncle was involved in
trying to get a civil war pension. I have been told the GAR published a
national publication called THE NATIONAL TRIBUNE. Does anyone have any
copies of the TRIBUNE for that time period?
I've written to the GAR museum and library, it seems nothing they have
is indexed or available directly for loan. The GAR historian says the
TRIBUNE should be available on microfiche, but no library in the
Atlanta area seems to have access to it.
My uncles name was William Newby, Co. D 40th Ill. Inf. He was supposed
to have been killed at Shiloh but showed up in 1891 looking for a
pension, etc.
Have I missed any place to look for this?

| Try the National Archives. With just the information you've got,
they'll be able to tell you whether they made it through the war.
Forget the address....maybe someone else can help.
