8.1 | Uniforms to borrow or rent? | TLE::SOULE | The elephant is wearing quiet clothes. | Mon Dec 09 1991 11:09 | 16 |
| As part of my church's tricentennial celebration, we are doing three
"historical" services that attempt to catch the flavor of the style
of worship and the issues of the day during three eras of the church's
history. The first (ca 1692) was yesterday, and was a great success.
I am now thinking forward to costuming for the third service, to be
held in March. It will portray the 1860's era, and I would love to go
in a Civil War army uniform (Union, of course - this takes place in
Massachusetts!)
I would like to locate a source from which I can rent or borrow a
uniform - preferably an officer's! Are there costume rental shops that
specialize, or recreated units that are willing to rent or lend?
Thanks for any help,
Ben Soule

Just a'wonderin'? Where in Massachusetts? Rebs went to church too.
If ya'll need some different shades of color to show up, drop me a

| Our church is in Lexington (First Parish, Unitarian Universalist). I'd
frankly be surprised if there were any rebels in Lexington at that time,
but perhaps someone's cousin was visiting from South Carolina! Were you
offering to show up yourself? I can post details about the service as the
time approaches for anyone who is interested.
The second of the series, portraying the time of the beginning of the
Revolution, will be Jan.26.

For Sale: 4 "Cabinet Photos" of Lookout Mountain, all ca. 1880s?,
photographed by J.B. Linn of Lookout Mountain, Tenn.
All of these are mounted on heavy card-stock and show
a few small age spots or other relatively minor defects.
$28
The first three are 5 x 8 1/2", sepia-tone with a dark
border, gold edged.
1) View from the top of the mountain, down toward the
Tennessee River. Farm with large barn at the foot of the
mountain.
2) View of Point Lookout from the side.
3) View of Point Lookout, the Tennessee River and Chattanooga
in the distance.
The fourth is a slightly smaller image, 4 1/2 x 7" with an orange
border. The reverse contains a list of views:
"Lookout Mountain Views, photographed and
published by J.B.Linn, Lookout Mountain,
Tennessee" with a list of 44 views from
the series.
Across the top of the reverse of this image is written in ink, what
I think says "RR on the Mt running to sunset Park + Sunset Rock 250
ft. (perhaps if this is "sunset park", that would help date the
photo if you could determine when the park was established).
4) Sepia-tone photo of railroad track climbing up a steep
grade, with an engine and single open car showing in the
distance.

| Does anyone know of reliable dealers of ACW autographs (documents, cards,

signature on cards) of well-known ACW generals.
If anyone has experience in such matters, I'd sure appreciate any information
you might have.
