I have another problem with cluster, described in 2108: Y Cable ----- TriLink ------ Y Cable | HSZ40 | | HSZ40 | KZPSA KZPSA AS1000A AS1000A Both alphas have DUNIX 3.2G with the newest KZPSA patch installed. ASE 1.3. Sometimes they cannot ping each other ower SCSI. Only network pings work. Could it be hardware Problem or it can be caused by high load on one of computers (or Just Another Patch is necessary. NB, besides the mentioned above there are no other patches installed) =Seva PS daemon.log extracts follow: Jun 3 14:09:11 ALPHA1 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: HSM_PATH_STATUS:192.168.1.2:UP Jun 3 16:19:45 ALPHA1 mountd[374]: startup Jun 3 16:19:50 ALPHA1 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: HSM_PATH_STATUS:192.168.1.2:UP Jun 3 16:19:50 ALPHA1 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: HSM_NI_STATUS:192.168.1.1:UP Jun 3 16:31:34 ALPHA1 DECsafe: local HSM Warning: Can't ping ALPHA2over the SCSI bus Jun 3 16:31:34 ALPHA1 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: HSM_PATH_STATUS:192.168.1.2:UP Jun 3 16:31:35 ALPHA1 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: network ping to host ALPHA2 is working but SCSI ping is g not Jun 3 16:32:04 ALPHA1 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: ATH_STATUS:192.168.1.2:UP Jun 3 16:32:05 ALPHA1 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: network ping to host ALPHA2 is working and now SCSI ping rking also Jun 3 16:32:11 ALPHA1 DECsafe: local HSM Warning: Can't ping ALPHA2 over ths Jun 3 16:32:12 ALPHA1 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: HSM_PATH_STATUS:192.168.1.2:UP Jun 3 16:32:12 ALPHA1 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: network ping to host ALPHA2 is working but SCSI ping is not Jun 3 16:32:42 ALPHA1 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: HSM_PAT_STATUS:192.168.1.2:UP Jun 3 16:32:42 ALPHA1 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: network ping to host ALPHA2 is working and now SCSI ping is working also Jun 3 16:35:12 ALPHA1 DECsafe: local HSM Warning: Can't ping ALPHA2 over the SCSI bus Jun 3 16:35:13 ALPHA1 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: HSM_PATH_STATUS:192.168.1.2:UP Jun 3 16:35:13 ALPHA1 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: network ping tohost ALPHA2 is working but SCSI ping is not Jun 3 16:35:43 ALPHA1 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT:HSM_PATH_STATUS:192.168.1.2:UP Jun 3 16:35:43 ALPHA1 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: network ping to hostALPHA2 is working and now SCSI ping is working also Jun 3 16:35:50 ALPHA1 DECsafe: local HSM Warning: Can't ping ALPHA2 over the SCSI bus Jun 3 16:35:50 ALPHA1 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: HSM_PAT_STATUS:192.168.1.2:UP Jun 3 16:35:51 ALPHA1 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: network ping to host ALPHA2 is working but SCSI ping is not Jun 3 16:36:51 ALPHA1 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: HSM_PATH_STATUS:192.168.1.2:UP Jun 3 16:36:51 ALPHA1 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: network ping tohost ALPHA2 is working and now SCSI ping is working also Jun 3 16:43:41 ALPHA1 DECsafe: local HSM Warning: Can't ping ALPHA2 over the SCSI bus Jun 3 16:43:42 ALPHA1 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: HSM_PAH_STATUS:192.168.1.2:UP Jun 3 16:43:42 ALPHA1 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: network ping tohost ALPHA2 is working but SCSI ping is not Jun 3 17:03:39 ALPHA1 mountd[374]: startup Jun 3 17:03:43 ALPHA1 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: HSM_PATH_STATUS:192.168.1.2:UP Jun 3 17:03:43 ALPHA1 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: HSM_NI_STATUS:192.168.1.1:UP ALPHA2: Jun 3 13:47:36 ALPHA2 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: network ping to host ALPHA1 is working but SCSI ping is not Jun 3 13:52:12 ALPHA2 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: HSM_PATH_STATUS:192.168.1.1:UP Jun 3 13:52:13 ALPHA2 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: network ping tohost ALPHA1 is working and now SCSI ping is working also Jun 3 13:52:29 ALPHA2 DECsafe: local HSM Warning: Can't ping ALPHA1 over the SCSI bus Jun 3 13:52:29 ALPHA2 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: HSM_PATH_STATUS:192.168.1.1:UP Jun 3 13:52:29 ALPHA2 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: network ping to host ALPHA1 is working but SCSI ping is not Jun 3 14:09:26 ALPHA2 mountd[374]: startup Jun 3 14:09:30 ALPHA2 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: HSM_PATH_STATUS:192.168.1.1:UP Jun 3 14:09:31 ALPHA2 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: HSM_NI_STATUS:192.168.1.2:UP Jun 3 16:16:22 ALPHA2 mountd[374]: startup Jun 3 16:16:26 ALPHA2 DECsafe: local HSM Warning: Can't ping ALPHA1 over the SCSI bus Jun 3 16:16:28 ALPHA2 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: HSM_NI_STATUS:192.168.1.2:UP Jun 3 16:16:32 ALPHA2 DECsafe: local HSM Warning: Can't ping ALPHA1 over the network Jun 3 16:16:33 ALPHA2 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: HSM_PATH_STATUS:192.168.1.1:DOWN Jun 3 16:16:33 ALPHA2 DECsafe: local HSM Warning: member ALPHA1 is DOWN Jun 3 16:19:35 ALPHA2 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: HSM_PATH_STATUS:192.168.1.1:UP Jun 3 16:59:55 ALPHA2 mountd[374]: startup Jun 3 16:59:58 ALPHA2 DECsafe: local HSM Warning: Can't ping ALPHA1 over the SCSI bus Jun 3 17:00:01 ALPHA2 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: HSM_NI_STATUS:192.168.1.2:UP Jun 3 17:00:05 ALPHA2 DECsafe: local HSM Warning: Can't ping ALPHA1 over the network Jun 3 17:00:06 ALPHA2 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: HSM_PATH_STATUS:192.168.1.1:DOWN Jun 3 17:00:06 ALPHA2 DECsafe: local HSM Warning: member ALPHA1 is DOWN Jun 3 17:03:31 ALPHA2 DECsafe: local HSM ***ALERT: HSM_PATH_STATUS:192.168.1.1:UP

It could be hardware or software, although from what you are saying it sounds more like hardware. It would take an extremely large load for a very large time to make the software issues become a problem. Do you see any entries in the binary error log (use 'uerf' or 'dia' to investigate) at the same time as the entries in the kernel.log file? You could try increaing some of the ASE AM timer values as described in Chapter 1.2.5 of the V1.3 ASE Administration manual. This would raise the threshold that ASE uses to detect failures.
